Family history

Researching the Rains, Smith, Maguire, Brady, Larkin, Speck, Hintz, (Hinze), Seiboth families all of South Australia from 1830s onwards. Also Kearns, O’Mealley, (Mealy) who arrived into NSW 1830s from Ireland. Dollman family arrived in Melbourne 1870.

Sarah Perkins, my great, great grandmother, born in Northamptonshire 30 July 1815, came to South Australia with William Raines, her husband on the Navarino, arriving 26 August 1837. Sarah died on 16 January 1871 at Dry Creek SA, but I have been unable to find a burial record for her.

William Henry Raines born 30 January 1811, Northamptonshire, migrated to South Australia in 1837 where he died on 3 January 1886. The couple had married on 24 December 1834 in Northamptonshire, England.

Mary-Ann Speck, born Cambridgeshire 25 May 1845 married my great-grandfather John Rains, (born 30 Dec 1839) in Adelaide on 7 March 1864. Mary-Ann died 25 May 1895 and John died 11 May 1907.

Michael Smith born c 1832 County Cavan, Ireland migrated to South Australia (date unknown) and  died 17 October 1919 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. Michael married Mary Maguire, (born c 1835 Lavey, County Cavan) on 15 August 1859 at Farrell Flat SA. Mary died on 11 October 1906 in Broken Hill NSW.

I am interested to know about Michael Smith’s family in Ireland, possibly from Ballyjamesduff, Cavan, Ireland. His Father was Patrick and mother Annie.

Joachim Martin Heinrich Hinze, born 3 June1842 Mecklenberg, Germany, migrated to South Australia 1846 and died at Williamstown, South Australia 24 July 1912. Joachim married Marie Elizabeth Seiboth on 30 April 1865 at Tanunda, SA. Marie Seiboth was born 30 April 1843 in Tanunda South Australia and I am keen to hear from anyone with information about her parents. Marie died 25 February 1906 at Williamstown SA.

Their son Bruno Alfred August Hinze, also known as Wilfred Bentley, has disappeared from the records without a trace after his wife, Lillian Dollman’s death in 1904. Bruno was born in Lyndoch SA on 23 August 1870. He married Lillian Dollman on 6 August 1897 in Box Hill Victoria under an assumed name, Wilfred Bentley.  Lillian Dollman was born August 1868 in Birmingham, England and died 23 July 1904 in Adelaide, SA. I  would love to hear any information about Bruno Hinze which may assist me in tracing his death etc. Contact me please via this website’s Contact page.

John O’Mealley born c 1832 Kurrajong, New South Wales and died 24 April,1918 Mildura Victoria. Desperately seeking further information about John O’Mealley’s forebears and how/when they came to Australia. Possibly his father was convict Philip Mealy transported from Ireland in 1832 on ship Portland. Keen to connect with researchers also working on this family.

Bridget Larkin, born c 1837 Ireland, migrated to Australia (date unknown). She married John O’Mealley on 14 July 1862 at Kapunda SA and died 2 October, 1925 in Mildura, Victoria. I am very interested to learn more of the Larkin family also. Her parents were Thomas Larkin and Margaret Carolan.

Charles Arthur Dollman, born 1846 Birmingham, migrated to Melbourne, Victoria 1870 and died 12 January 1916 in Melbourne . His wife Emily Sarah Hunt, born 1849 Warwickshire, England, died the day after arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on 25 March 1870. Her parents were William and Elizabeth Hunt.

On a trip to Birmingham in 2012, I visited Dale End where Charles Arthur Dollman’s father had a wine merchant’s business.
